My metabolism sucks. I look at food and I gain weight.
Poppycock. And yes, I love writing that word. Your metabolism can be turned into an engine, capable of consuming fuel like a Ferrari. Easy access to food is only a recent event in human history. Your body expects to expend energy hunting deer, elk and moose. Anticipating that winter is coming (Game of Thrones reference intended), your body evolved to store fat and be efficient, not knowing that nowadays you can just stand in line at Starbucks for a $4 cup of mid morning naughtiness.
And yes, when you argue with us gym owners that $4 day for access to our million dollar gym is too expensive, while holding your sugar laden $4 coffee and wearing your $150 lululemon compression pants, we do get a wee bit resentful (silent judgment.)
When you do too much cardio, strengthening your heart and lungs, your body gets more efficient and your resting metabolism decreases. You also shed muscle because your body knows that too much muscle burns too many calories, and that's not efficient for moose hunting.
Resistance training is like kicking Evolution's ass. You put on muscle (get toned) and have a higher metabolism all the time. And no, you will not get "big." Remember that evolution does not want you to carry muscle. Though, it does want you to buy the Pangaea membership at Thrill.
So if you're doing regular resistance training, and eating the right way (the next blog),your body will start shaping beautifully (I'm talking beach ready) and you can eat more than you ever did before without gaining weight.
All without harming a single moose.
